From summer to winter: how to change your little one's sleeping bag

October 15, 2025

Why the right sleeping bag is so important

A well-chosen sleeping bag helps your baby sleep safely and comfortably. In summer, a light sleeping bag provides sufficient ventilation, while a warm sleeping bag retains heat better in winter. Choosing the right TOG rating helps keep your baby's body temperature balanced—not too hot and not too cold.

What is TOG and which one should you choose?

The TOG rating indicates how well a sleeping bag retains heat. The higher the TOG rating, the warmer the sleeping bag. The room temperature will help you determine which sleeping bag is most suitable.

Our TOG table

The tables below show at a glance which
TOG value you can choose at different room temperatures and which clothes
you can carry your baby underneath.

When do you switch from summer to winter?

There's no set date for changing your sleeping bag. It depends on the temperature in the nursery and your baby's body. Are the nights getting colder, or do you notice your baby has cold hands or a chilly neck? Then it's time for a thicker sleeping bag. Does your baby feel a bit clammy or sweaty? Then the sleeping bag is probably too warm.

Parents know their baby best. Trust your instincts and pay close attention to your baby's signals.

Choosing the right size sleeping bag

A well-fitting sleeping bag is just as important as its TOG rating. The sleeping bag shouldn't be too loose around the neck and arms, so your baby can't slide around in it.

Size advice by height and age:

warm, safe and familiar

Choose natural materials like cotton or muslin. These fabrics breathe well and feel soft against the skin. A comfortable sleep environment and a consistent bedtime routine create peace and security. This way, the transition from summer to winter will be not only comfortable but also familiar for your little one.
